Universidad de la República is the largest public university in Uruguay. It has more than 135 thousand undergraduate students.
Its objectives include democratising access to higher education, reversing geographical inequalities, and generating regionally relevant academic proposals.

The UNESCO Chair in Open Education

The UNESCO Chair in Open Education of the Universidad de la República was approved by UNESCO in November 2020.
The purpose of the chair is to promote an integrated system of research, training, information and documentation on Open Education.
Regina Motz
Holder of the UNESCO Chair in Open Education, Regina Motz coordinates the Interdisciplinary Nucleus of Open and Accessible Educational Resources.
She has led multiple national and international projects and serves as Coordinator of the Doctoral Program in Informatics in Education, a collaboration between the Universidad de la República (Uruguay) and the Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul (Brazil).
